Scenario:
Whilst Alloy allows you to import shapefiles into the system via the Gateway there does not appear to be a way of exporting data out of the system in the same format.
If Alloy can read a shapefile and present within the system correctly could it not export data as a shapefile too?
The CSV file produced by data explorer is fine for some reporting/analysis but it would be useful to be able to export asset data, job data and inspection data and view them within a full GIS system (i.e. ESRI Arc Pro) and analyse with other data not held in Alloy.
The CSV file from data explorer can include a geometry field but the way it is presented is problematic when trying to add the data to a GIS system (workable if the data is point based although time consuming) but becomes impossible when the data has a more complex geometry (i.e. Polyline and polygon data).
Solution:
If the data being viewed in the Data Explorer contains an attribute that is of the type 'Geometry' - then allow this data to be optionally exported in a Shapefile format, including the .shp, shx and .dbf files required to read this data in an external GIS system.
Thanks for the update, but this is not entirely correct, as you can only do this via the API currently, something most users would not have access to. When will it be available in Data Explorer as an option?
